Tassie's Latest Trail Opening

We've looked at Derby before and more recently focused on the trail openings of Atlas and Black Dragon, but this hotbed of mountain biking in north west Tasmania continues to grow.

The Big Chook is the first stage of MTB specific trail in the forest behind Weldborough, a few kilometers east from Derby at the foot of the Blue Tier. Where the Blue Tier trail is an old school washed out and technical fire trail, this new track features all the new school World Trail built design features; berms, grade reversals and plenty of optional jumps.

In time more trail will link the Big Chook with the top of the Blue Tier, but as it stands this addition eliminates much of the fire trail riding that you encounter towards the end of the Blue Tier ride.

This video from Jasper Da Seymour paints a great picture of the green lushness that you can expect to find in this part of the world.
