Bike Specific Bifocals

Do you need reading glasses? Ever find yourself needing to read whilst out on a ride? Well these new sunnies from BZ Optics may hold the answer.

The Pho Bifocal sunnies came about when Scott Birdsall, a keen cyclist, approached his mate Kevin Barr, owner of Aussie based sunglass brand BZ Optics. Scott wanted wrap around cycling eyewear that also allowed him to read; a handy thing when it comes to looking at your GPS, phone or reading the menu at your post-ride pub stop!

The result is a lightweight wraparound design with a photochromic lens and non-slip ear and nose pieces. Being photochromic, you can wear them all day long; from dawn till dusk and beyond. In low light conditions they are completely clear and darken automatically as the UV levels rise.

The bifocal element is discreetly moulded in the lower section of the lens and doesn’t come into play until look down to read. Power options include +1.50, +2.00 and +2.50, so they should be suitable for most reading glasses wearers.

In addition to the photochromic bifocal lens, BZ also offers regular photochromic and blue mirrored polycarbonate lenses - they're all interchangeable within the Pho model. These wraparound bifocals retail for $160 – surprisingly reasonable given the pricing we see on some regular sports eyewear these days. Without the bifocal feature they sell for $90 with a mirrored lens and $130 in regular photochromic.
