Dirty Bits: cSixx XC Chain Guide
Running a single chainring appears to be the big new thing, but unless you’re plonking down a huge wad of cash on the new SRAM XX1 drivechain, you’ll need some form of guide to keep the chain in place. Carbon construction is another ‘big thing’ and the two trends collide in the cSixx XC guide. As you’d expect, this all-carbon guide is light; the high-direct mount version weighs just 50g including anodised alloy hardware while the clamp-on type comes in at 68g. It’s not all about weight loss though; low modulus carbon is used to provide flex and impact resistance while the shape is moulded to optimise performance. Kevlar is also used to reinforce high impact areas. The cSixx XC chain guide is offered three mounting types; high and low clamp as well as high direct mount. Expect to pay $150 to $170 for the clamp on type and between $100 and $120 for the direct mount version.
