Evocities at Armidale
Most rounds of the 2016 Evocities MTB Series follow the traditional five or six hour race format, with solo riders and teams completing as many laps as possible within the allotted time, usually on a shorter format course. The Armidale round, coming up on Sunday the 30th of October, is different.
Round six of the seven race series is a marathon event with 100, 50 and 17km options. Dubbed the High Hunnit Marathon, the event will utilise a 17km loop in the ‘Piney’s’ trail network, which is located at the Charleston Willows Recreation Reserve, a few kilometres north of Armidale.
The trails run through the Armidale State Forest and includes some notorious root sections with 170 metres of climbing for each 17km lap. While most marathon events are aimed primarily at solo riders, this Evocities round retains a team’s element, so you’ll be able to share out the laps with your mates if you prefer.
Aside from the racing, Armidale is also hosting the Day on the Green music festival over the same weekend, so you can get into the festivities there as well if you like!
