Labour Day long weekend (9-11 March) is shaping up to be a huge weekend at Mt Buller! With a mix of events across the weekend, visitors can plan their weekend depending on the desired level of adventure!

Whether racing bikes in the Shimano Bike Buller Festival, bushwalking on Mt Stirling or enjoying local produce and live entertainment in Mirimbah Park on a beautiful Sunday afternoon; Mt Buller has everything on offer. Acting Marketing Manager, Mt Buller and Mt Stirling Resort Management Board, Niki Donaldson says “We’re all set for a huge weekend of racing, relaxing and fun in the High Country. With the Shimano Bike Buller Festival, Picnic in the Park and the chairlift spinning for mountain bikers and sightseers, it’s the biggest weekend of the summer season. Visitors who haven’t experienced Labour Day weekend at Mt Buller are in for a real treat!”

With beautiful single track, fun descents and mountainous climbs, Mt Buller is the perfect location to host an all-inclusive mountain bike festival. The Shimano Bike Buller Festival is returning for its eleventh year, with a new and exciting 2-day format with different races for all types of riders. The event will see over 500 riders converge on Mt Buller to celebrate all things great about mountain biking. With new cross-country stages, including a point to point race along the Australian Alpine Epic Trail – Shimano Bike Buller Festival is great for competitors and spectators alike!

The Northside Express Chairlift will run for the duration of the weekend (Saturday 9-Sunday 10) for competitors, general riders and sightseers. Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the lovely weather and fresh alpine air as they enjoy riding the chairlift – and for some, seeing what is normally hidden under all the winter snow! From the chairlift, visitors can watch riders race down the gravity trails below, as they cross ski runs and dip in and out of tree lines. Lift tickets are available for purchase on the day at the load stations. All Terrain Cycles are set to operate their gravity shuttles on Monday 11 March for riders wanting to make the most of the long weekend.

A bonus to the weekend event line-up is the Highline Slopestyle Competition on the Village Toboggan Slope on the Saturday evening. Visitors are invited to watch the best local riders perform their best tricks and whips off custom-built dirt jumps. The natural amphitheatre of the Village Toboggan Slope and the breathtaking mountain background is the perfect backdrop for this high-adrenalin competition – it’s one not to be missed!

Another big event on the weekend, and a highlight on the summer event calendar is Picnic in the Park! On the Sunday afternoon (10 March) from 12pm-6pm, visitors can roll out their picnic rug alongside the Delatite River in Mirimbah Park for a food and wine festival. Picnic in the Park showcases the best of local produce, wine and beer, all the while visitors can enjoy kids activities and a fantastic live entertainment line-up.
